What our Proprietary Material Blend Actually is=s and Why It Matters

When we say our toys are made from a proprietary biodegradable material blend, we don’t expect you to simply take our word for it.


You deserve to understand what that means.


Material claims in the toy industry are often vague:

 

  • Eco-friendly

  • Plant-based

  • Green

  • Natural

 


But very few brands explain what those words represent at a molecular level.


So let’s break it down clearly.

 


 

 

1. Most Toys Are Made From Petrochemical Plastics

 


The majority of conventional toys are made from petroleum-derived polymers such as:

 

  • Polypropylene (PP)

  • Polyethylene (PE)

  • ABS plastic

  • PVC

 


These materials are extremely durable, resistant to microbial breakdown, and designed to last decades to centuries.


That durability is useful during play.


But after disposal, these materials do not biologically return to the earth. Instead, they:

 

  • Persist in landfills

  • Fragment into microplastics

  • Accumulate in ecosystems

 


Plastic was engineered to resist nature.


We asked a different question: What if play materials worked with nature instead?

 


 

 

2. What Makes a Material Biodegradable?

 


True biodegradability means microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi can metabolize a material into:

 

  • Water

  • Carbon dioxide, or methane in anaerobic conditions

  • Biomass

 


In other words, the material becomes part of a biological cycle again.


But not all biodegradable materials behave the same way.

And not all biodegradation timelines are equal.


This is where formulation matters.

 


 

 

3. Our Proprietary Blend: Designed for Real-World Conditions

 


Our material is engineered from:

 

  • Renewable resource inputs

  • A biodegradable polymer matrix

  • Additives that support microbial assimilation

  • Zero conventional petrochemical plastic fillers

 


What makes it different is not simply that it is plant-derived.


The polymer structure itself is designed to be broken down by microbes under natural environmental exposure.


That means:

 

  • It does not persist for centuries

  • It does not fragment into permanent microplastic particles

  • It is engineered to return to earth rather than accumulate

 


Conditions do matter.


Like any biodegradable material, breakdown speed depends on:

 

  • Temperature

  • Moisture

  • Microbial presence

  • Soil conditions

 


But unlike petroleum plastic, the process can actually occur.

 


 

 

4. Why Formulation Matters More Than Buzzwords

 


Bio-based refers to origin.


Compostable refers to breakdown under defined compost conditions.


Biodegradable refers to biological breakdown potential.


But formulation determines:

 

  • Stability during play

  • End-of-life behavior

  • Fragmentation risk

  • Residue safety

 


Material science is not marketing language.

It is molecular design.


We worked with materials scientists to balance durability during childhood, breakdown after use, and safety throughout both stages.


That balance is engineered, not assumed.

 


 

 

5. Why This Matters for Children

 


Children play close to the ground.


They touch soil.

They play outdoors.

They lose toys in parks and beaches.


Material choice matters in those environments.


Every toy is a long-term environmental decision.


If a toy is lost outdoors, does it persist?

Does it fragment?

Or does it eventually reintegrate?


That question guided our design process.

 


 

 

6. This Is Not About Perfection

 


No material system is impact-free.


But responsible material design is better than continuing petrochemical plastic by default.


Our goal is simple:


Make toys that perform beautifully during play

And behave responsibly after play


One toy at a time.
